Barbara Nelson

OIL PAINTING

It has been said that a painting should entertain the eye while it speaks to the soul of the viewer. That is why Barbara Nelson creates art. With her painting knife and oil paints, she is always seeking the beauty that God provides on a daily basis. Having traveled throughout the United States and parts of Europe, Barbara was fascinated by the views that are provided by nature. Whether from a mountaintop in California or the rolling of the waves as they break over the sands on the east coast, the solitude one can find in these beautiful places is what she seeks to capture in her paintings.  he quiet before the rising sun or the restful nature of the sunset have been the focus of many paintings. In between sunrises and sunsets, there is always another wonderful view to paint around every bend.

Barbara is originally from New Jersey, where she attended school, and her family lived for many years in Connecticut. Art became a release from the everyday duties of raising a family. Over the years there have been many classes and workshops to gain knowledge and experience and provide an opportunity to paint outdoors and work with nature first-hand.  Living in Virginia for the last 20 years has given her the opportunity to paint the Blue Ridge Mountains as well as the peaceful Atlantic shore. Flowers and the everchanging garden scene have been the subject of many of her paintings. These gardenscapes have evolved over the years as a combinations of flowers and landscape.

Barbara is an active member of the Bon Air Artist Association and past president of the Salisbury Garden Club. She exhibits with the Bon Air Artists and at Crossroads Art Center. She won 1st place award in oil at Art Affair 2009.
