Putting It Together – Understanding the Essentials of Good Composition
with Terry Miller

Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23  |  9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Consider understanding the fundamentals of good, well-balanced design in art as the skeleton upon which you will build your painting or drawing. Having knowledge of those key foundations and principles which have been used for centuries by the most renowned artists will allow your creativity to soar.

The workshop will immerse students in an in-depth exploration, through image-detailed lecture, of those fundamentals, as well as an explanation of how to avoid the pitfalls of imbalance in art. Examples of the instructor's art, based upon the fundamentals presented, will further demonstrate the process of building a well-balanced composition.

The second day of the two-day event will focus on hands on demonstrations of compositional design, both by instructor and students. Students will make use of their own reference material and will also be asked to bring in at least one previously sketched-out preliminary compositional design for critique and discussion. The aim of the two-day workshop is for students to leave with a better understanding of how to make their art stronger, more appealing, and constructed to stand out from the rest.

Fee: $250. Deposit of $125 due at registration, and the balance of $125 is due on May 15.
