Sherry Siewert: Introduction to Metal Clay

Thursdays, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 11/7

This class will teach you the basic techniques to create Metal Clay jewelry out of textures, Stone and Shell. Techniques that you will learn are texturing, making coils, setting stones, Shell and resin, cutting, sanding, polishing, drying, molding designs, carving. You will complete four projects in this class following demonstrations on each technique. After this class you will be prepared to create your own works of art and step into intermediate workshops using your new found basic skills. Class cost includes silver clay for four projects and tools will be provided for use in class. Additional clay can be purchased separately if needed. Cost is $225.

Rare and Exotic Woods Jewelry Workshop with Rick Smucker, PhD, MT-BC

Sunday, September 22  |  11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Rich has years of experience and knowledge doing the thing he loves; creating stunning jewelry from Nature’s rare and unique varieties of wood: mistletoe, oak burl, wine vine, or wine infused oak. Rich will assist you in selecting the wood type and the shape that speaks to your heart from the vast variety of raw, precut earring or pendant pieces for transforming into your own personal work of art. Providing all needed supplies, he will teach you the secrets he has gained through years of working with these rich cuts of wood for discovering and illuminating the innate beauty of your piece. You can decide whether you wish to create a single or composite work from the pieces you have selected. You will leave this workshop with a stunning finished work of art, made by you, and you will take with you the secret alchemy for revealing beauty in surprising places.

 

You will:

  • Select materials from a vast array of options, precut from mistletoe/oak burl, wine vine, or wine infused oak
  • Decide how you wish to arrange your unique selections and how they might look on you (single or composite combining two shapes)
  • Do the final shaping of selections
  • Perform the intermediate sanding of selections
  • Perform the intermediate final sanding of selections
  • Follow the secret steps for polishing your selection to bring out its magical qualities (polishing papers and felt wheel buffing)
  • Make your choice and apply either French wires (titanium), or marquis wires for earring selections
  • Select a neck cord for necklace pendants
  • Take home a care package (special polishing fabric for you: one micrometer particle size polishing finish for special care of your beautiful work of art)
  • Revel in the joy of having discovered and revealed the beauty found in surprising places

 

Fee: $78. Class size limited to 15 students. Last day for registration is Friday, September 20, 2019. Cancellations on or before September 20 will receive a full refund minus a $25 registration fee. No refunds for cancellations after September 20, for no-shows, or for withdrawals after class begins.

Block Printing Art Workshop

October 5, 2019  |  11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Woodblock printing on textiles is the process of using wooden blocks carved with various designs that are dabbed witgh textile ink and stamped onto fabric, usually on linen, cotton, or silk. It is one of the earliest and slowest methods of textile printing. Block printing by hand is a slow process, however it is also one of the most versatile and creative methods and is capable of creating highly artistic results, some of which are not possible with any other method. You will take a creative one-of-a-kind tote bag along with either a scarf or a potli bag. You will come away with a traditional experience of printing which yields amazing artistic techniques. All materials for the class will provided, including:

• Tote bag

• Choice of Potli bag or scarf

• Blocks to use for the class

• Paints to be used for the class

• All other materials required for the class will be provided

 

The journey of creating this and the end product itself will surely delight you!

 

Fee: $100 (inclusive of materials). Class size is limited to 10 students. Cancellations: We will refund your tuition paid, less a $30 cancellation fee, if you cancel more than 14 days before the start date of a class. If you cancel 14 days or less before the start date, you will forfeit your tuition. There are no refunds for no-shows or for withdrawals after a class begins.

Sherry Siewert Silversmithing Workshop 2020

Saturday, January 25, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 26, noon–5:00 p.m.

This class will provide you with the safety requirements and techniques to create your own beautiful stone and silver jewelry. You will create one sterling silver pendant using silversmith techniques that teaches you how to cut sheet metal, solder metals, sand and polishing. The supplies are included with the cost of the class. Class will be taught as a two-day workshop. Fee: $325.

Registration and Refund Policies for Classes and Workshops

Registration Guidelines

  • Full payment must accompany registration and is nonrefundable.
  • Class fees will not be prorated for any reason.
  • Payment must be made by cash, check, or credit card (a 5% convenience fee will be added for credit card transactions).
  • Late registrations are welcome with space available and permission of the instructor.
  • Unless otherwise noted, classes are open to participants age 16 and older.

 

Cancellations and Refunds

  • Crossroads Art Center or the course instructor reserves the right to cancel any class with insufficient enrollment five to seven days prior to the first scheduled class.
  • A full refund is provided if Crossroads Art Center or the instructor cancels a class.
  • Crossroads Art Center does not issue credit vouchers for class withdrawals.

 

Crossroads Art Center may occasionally provide a substitute course instructor. This is decided with a recommendation from the scheduled instructor to ensure the quality of the class.
