Curney Nuffer

PAINTING/DRAWING + PORTRAITURE + ART EDUCATION

Curney Nuffer is a versatile and talented artist who works successfully in oils, watercolors, and all drawing mediums. He has been influenced by the Russian artists of the late 19th and early 20th century and by graduates of the Sirikov Institute in Moscow; he has studied with a number of these artists both in Russia and the Republic of Georgia. Curney also enjoys plein air painting with these artists when they visit the Lazare Gallery in Charles City County.

Curney works on a commission basis to create portraits of adults and children in oils, watercolors, or drawing medium, and he has a long list of satisfied clients. On both large and small canvases, he is able to capture not only physical appearance, but personality and presence of his subjects. Curney also incorporates beautiful landscape settings into portrait commissions, using a custom color palette for each work. His studio is located in Fulton Hill Studios in downtown Richmond.

Curney offers classes (mostly in oils) for beginning to advanced students at Crossroads Art Center. Curney has created customized, original class materials, including a suggested materials list, information on mixing a palette and paint application, thoughts on drawing and painting, and a sheet on the basic construction of the human face and body. He has taken students abroad to Italy, Portugal, and England to visit museums and paint en plein air in rural settings.
