Emma Knight

OIL ON CANVAS

The work of Emma Knight is musing, moody, and quirky. After living and painting in Savannah, Georgia, for 20 years, Knight returned to her hometown of Richmond, Virginia, to paint its cityscapes and neighboring Virginia landscapes.

Knight’s abstracted landscapes are full of inferred spaced and are quite recognizable. Line, color, texture, and shape are manipulated to evoke mood. She paints using the indirect method, a slow process which involves building multiple layers of paint. For the past decade, she has used water-miscable oils. Each year, the artist selects a few original works to be reproduced as giclée — a digital-process that results in detailed prints — on acid-free museum-quality paper with 62-year archival inks.

Knight studied art at the Virginia’s University of Mary Washington. Her paintings have been shown in fairs, galleries, and salons nationwide.
