Guy Crittenden

PAINTING + DRAWING

Guy Crittenden grew up fishing and hunting on the Chesapeake Bay in Gloucester, Virginia. He raised waterfowl at his childhood home on the shores of the Ware River, crabbed in the shallows along the tidal sandbars, and learned about wildlife and the ways of watermen from his grandfather. Guy began to draw and paint as a teenager, and it was no surprise that his favorite subject matter was the native wildlife and nature he experienced in his boundless backyard. Those childhood experiences had a profound impact and have influenced his art throughout his life.

“I was immersed in the natural world very early in life, and those years created the fabric and foundation of my artistic pursuits. My art is often a reflection of my life and inspirations at the time. I am currently working on a sportfishing series of original paintings that was inspired by several recent amazing trips. I am also working on a series of aerial paintings that show landscapes in perspectives that few people ever get to see.”

With an eye for detail and an academic approach to the study of wildlife, his art reflects his knowledge of nature. He is the five-time winner of the Virginia Migratory Waterfowl Stamp competition, He has won state waterfowl stamp competitions in North Carolina, Louisiana, Michigan, Connecticut, and Oklahoma. He exhibits his work at The Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, SC; The East Carolina Wildfowl Festival; and the Rappahannock River Waterfowl Show.

Guy currently works primarily on competitions and original landscape commissions for clients and collectors.
