Helen George

PHOTO MANIPULATION

Helen George is a former Jersey girl who has claimed Virginia home after completing college in the state. She holds a degree in equine science with a minor in art. Further studies in art have included classes at VCU, the VMFA Museum School, and the Visual Arts Center.

Although training dressage horses is a 24/7 job, Helen always finds time for art, such as designing wedding invitations and horse show posters, creating collages, painting wall murals, and attending classes to experiment with different mediums. Physical limitations have constrained her riding career, but the saving grace is more time for art.

Her current body of work encompasses altered photographs, which started simply as studies for paintings, but morphed into a genre of its own. She believes that her being computer-illiterate and self-taught in the use of manipulations encourages her creativity.
