After painting on porcelain for more than 20 years, Janice Jones decided that working on canvas might be a nice change of pace. While living in Mexico, she was privileged to study oil painting with Javier Ramos, known for his work throughout Mexico and the western United States. You will see from her work that she is not afraid of using color, thanks to him. After returning to the U.S., she continued to study oil painting with Betsy Kellum, Steven Walker, and others. However, taking a class with Karlyn Holman changed her life and led to her to become primarily a watercolor artist. Janice also enjoys working with collage, using techniques learned while studying with Gerald Brommer, and using Washi papers in work to develop an entire painting. She also works in pastels, and she considers herself to be an evolving artist, always pushing the envelope to try new techniques, searching for her niche.
Janice also creates fused-glass jewelry. Her paintings and jewelry can be seen at Shirl’s Gallery in Colonial Beach, Va., and at shows in the Virginia/Maryland area or at her home studio. In her spare time, Janice coordinates workshops, bringing teachers to Fredericksburg, Va., and other areas. Check out her website for a list of upcoming classes.
