Jim Bumpas has always been fascinated with wood; since retiring, woodturning has become a passion for him. A student of David Ellsworth and other well-known turners, he makes a variety of wood-turned objects. He especially likes to turn thin-walled hollow vessels through small holes. Most of his pieces are created from local wood. Each piece of wood is unique, and Jim enjoys the challenge of finding and highlighting its inner beauty. After a 40-year career in human services, he says it’s a pleasure to be able to explore his creative self.
