Jocelyn Welles (Welles and Company)

FIBER

Welles and Company  is a collaboration between Jocelyn Welles and Christina Lindholm. Welles has many years of experience as an artist working in calligraphy, basketry, and a range of fiber practices, including designing and making teddy bears, quilting, knitting, crocheting and felt-making. Her current interests are in wet-felting and needle-felting. Her love of color and embellishment translate knitted and felted broaches, bracelets, and scarves into works of wearable art, while her larger needle-felted objects are colorful animals with a sense of whimsy. Welles is knowledgeable about both the creative side and the marketing aspects of art-making and sales, having previously managed a gallery in California.

Lindholm is a self-described “maker.” She has more years sewing and knitting than she is willing to admit. She likes knitting better since the needles don’t draw blood, although she recently completed a second set of performance costumes for the Richmond Indigenous Orchestra. She sells her knitted and felted items in order to make room to make more. Her favorite skills are lace knitting and wet-felting bracelets, flower pins, and hats.

Both artists gain inspiration from diverse materials and cultures from U.S. and international travel.
