John McQueen was a builder and woodsman even as a child. He studied furniture design under master woodworker Alfonse Mateo at Virginia Commonwealth University. On a spring break trip to a friend’s farm to cut logs into lumber for a project, he was inspired and began a logging company. Over the years, he continued to build furniture while he running a logging and land business. Coming full circle, he is now devoted full-time to woodworking and furniture design.

All of John’s furniture is designed and built in his shop outside of Petersburg, Va., using only locally harvested wood. Other woods are available upon customer request. In-stock woods include black walnut, cherry, wormy maple, and bald cypress. Only the best mortise and tennon joinery are used along with laminations for strong, lightweight curves. Danish oil and Tung oil finished are standard, with polyblend finishes for pieces that are exposed to moisture. Each piece is made individually, and custom projects are welcome.
