Judy Gilman
PAINTING
As a child during World War II, Judy Gilman remembers her mother’s victory garden of vegetables that later became a rose garden. Years of watching her mother tend a beautiful garden rubbed off on Judy.
As a young bride in her first home, Judy’s first garden was a gift from a retired schoolteacher who offered to design and plant the garden as a hobby for himself. Judy tried to nurture every species to produce at its best. Garden Club demands encouraged her more. She has had two gardens and homes opened for Historic Garden Week. Another garden was on tour for the International Daffodil Exhibit. Judy also had a large wildflower garden at her home in Wintergreen.
Now Judy paints to bring her garden into the house year-round. She usually has grown each plant herself ,or a friend has planted it in her garden. In each painting, Judy tries to show the very young, middle, and full blossom as well as the old age or seed that developed during the painting process.
