Kate Loomis

METAL CLAY WEARABLE ART

Kate Loomis is originally from Richmond, Virginia, and her early artistic endeavors consisted primarily of pencil and acrylics. She set aside her creativity for many years to pursue a degree in biology and a career in quality engineering. That path taught her valuable lessons in quality craftsmanship, but she was unfulfilled creatively.

"Each piece I conceive is not purely from imagination, but inspired by my travels. I am drawn to handmade wearable art mementos that remind me of objects, places, and the memorable times experienced on my journeys. In metal clay, I found my creative spirit blossom, and it has become the method I use to create pieces that have unique textures, hand-cut cabochons with interesting patterns, or colorful stones. A passion to produce one-of-a-kind pieces was married with my love of nature and travel. Consequently, each of my pieces connects with the individuals who wear them because, just like people, every ONE has a story."

In 2014, Kate began taking classes at the the Richmond Visual Arts Center. In working with metal clay, she found her passion and a creative spirit. Continuing studies under nationally recognized metal clay artists such as Lora Hart, Terry Kovalcik, and others, a passion grew to produce one-of-a-kind pieces that tied together her love of nature and travel. Everyone has a story. Which piece might fit your story?

Today, her pieces are shown at juried art shows and artisan fairs along the east coast. She lives in Virginia with her husband and two children.
