“If there is one concept that influences my work, it is the impermanence of our surroundings. Tick-tock, tick-tock …. ” — Linda Hollett-Bazouzi
Linda Hollett-Bazouzi is a landscape painter, working in oils with a paint knife. Her plein air work greatly informs her studio work. Painting outdoors requires the artist to quickly capture the movement of clouds, the rhythm of waves, the light of day. In the studio, she is driven to capture those moments with the same sense of urgency she feels when painting outdoors. She is drawn to areas that others may see, but deem unimportant or unworthy of notice — that is, until development or destruction comes.
Hollett-Bazouzi works alla prima. In alla prima work, the paint is applied "all at once" and left alone rather than being built up in multiple layers. Her large paintings are created in long six-hour to nine-hour sessions until done. Small ones are finished in one shorter session. A world traveler, her most recent trips have been to Italy and Tunisia. She prefers to travel on her own, enabling her to concentrate fully on painting.
Hollett-Bazouzi received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in art from Radford University. She is a member of Oil Painters of America and the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. A dedicated plein air painter, she is lead artist for the Virginia Plein Air Painters.
