Lucy Sawyer

MIXED MEDIA PAINTING ON SILK

Lucy Sawyer grew up in a tiny village in Maine. Her adult years have been spent traveling and living coast-to-coast with her Air Force husband, Ed. They have four children and ten grandchildren.

Completely self-taught, Lucy painted craft items for many years. In 1994, she became inspired to paint on canvas when she and her family settled in New Kent, Virginia. A prolific artist, she often has several works in progress at once. Her art is typically in the realist style in acrylics, oils, or mixed media. Her subject matter is varied and includes portraits, still lifes, landscapes and seascapes, wildlife, and natural, pastoral, and nautical scenes.

In her community she shared her art by creating signs, interior murals, and murals on the library's street side windows for several years. Ed built Lucy's studio in a separate building at their home, and he now has a thriving custom framing business. They work together in the hilltop studio, where Lucy's art students find their way each week through the charmingly landscaped cottage garden in order to express their creativity with brush and canvas.

Lucy occasionally exhibits at local galleries and businesses. She also accepts commissioned work.
