Nell Chesley

PAINTING

Drawing and painting beautiful, light-filled subjects or making ordinary subjects beautiful with color and light is Nell’s passion. She may draw the subject directly on the canvas with her brush or transfer a detailed perspective drawing to the canvas for the painting. Nell uses water-based oils since they provide the same colors and longevity as traditional oils while being environmentally responsible.  She does studio and plein air painting. Interesting architecture and gardens are favorite subjects.

Nell earned a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and an Bachelors from Meredith College.  Her work is in the collections of the Federal Reserve Bank, MCV Hospitals, First and Merchants Bank, and Tetra Pak, Inc.  Her painting, “Middleburg,” was exhibited at the Chrysler Museum in a juried exhibition. Her painting, “Minnesota Snow,” was juried into the highly acclaimed Minnesota State Fair Fine Art Exhibition. Nell has illustrated three published children’s books authored by Bill Pike.

Nell was a docent at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts for ten years, president of Bon Air Artists Association, and co-director of the Uptown Gallery. She has participated in numerous outdoor art shows in several states.
