Randy Hill

PAINTING

Randi Hill is a painter who strives to create work that functions on many levels: abstract, representational, and emotional. Her painting is a response to all three levels simultaneously. Familiar images are the anchor, the “story” of the painting. Beyond that, she works on line, form, and color individually, outside the scope of the representional imagery. But it’s not separate; the image provides an emotional context to the abstract qualities of the painting. It’s all happening at once.

Randi continues her art education through classes, often to have a mentor as well as gain technical painting knowledge in her journey to paint more bravely and intuitively. She sums up her artistic process like this: “I begin very quickly to lay out an image that will change and be revised many times as I work. In between periods of intense painting, I stop completely and spend time contemplating the work before jumping back in to continue the process. I don’t want everything planned in advance; I want to wrestle with the painting as I go. This keeps it fresh and full of energy, never quite locked down.”
