Sylvia deShazo was born in London with the snow falling and the bombs dropping. Growing up, paint supplies were non-existent, and her early paintings were made from charcoal salvaged from the garden bonfire and paper torn from the front pages of antique books. There was a price to pay when her mother and grandmother found the source of her paper supplies.
Sylvia enjoys using both acrylic and watercolor mediums with yupo paper. She paints peaceful cottages as well as a series of bottles and jars, which affords so many colors, reflections and shapes.
Sylvia is an exhibiting member of Bon Air Artists Association, as well as a charter member of the Wednesday Night Painting Group. She has shown her paintings at the General Assembly Building, Glen Allen Cultural Center, and various other venues, as well as having been invited as guest artist at the UpTown Gallery. Her paintings are in residences in Washington, D.C.; London and Suffolk, England; and Adelaide and Melbourne, Australia.
