Vivian Driskill

JEWELRY + ASSEMBLAGE

Vivian Driskill was always creative, yet didn’t find her niche until 2007 when a passion for jewelry design was born. Her work represents how elements relate to each other. The fusion of found objects and fabricated components create a narrative statement unique to each piece. She appreciates vintage elements for their patina, timeless qualities and the stories she imagines they can tell. She loves to work with individual clients to create wearable works of art that incorporate precious family heirlooms.

When not traveling or searching for inspirational finds, the “process artist” is in her studio. She spontaneously experiments with diverse combinations of materials that are unexpected, unusual, or asymmetrical. Good technical metalsmithing skills and strong design principles are utilized to create original elements unique to each piece.

A few years ago, Vivian began exploring assemblage sculpture. As with her jewelry, she found that many of the same concepts could be applied. The objects themselves serve different purposes; sometimes it’s the functionality, shape, color or texture that drives the composition.  Intuition plays a pivotal role throughout the creative process. Finished pieces range from whimsical to a more serious interpretation.

Vivian has a BS in clothing and textiles from Northern Michigan University. She has studied with numerous, well-known art jewelry artists through yearly workshops in Tucson, Arizona. Her work has been showcased in the national publication of Belle Armoire Jewelry Magazine and accepted in several regional juried art shows.

Originally from Michigan, Vivian currently resides in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she balances life with her husband.
