Zach Blevins

FIGURINES

Zach Blevins began creating figurines more than 15 years ago. His mother would buy pipe cleaners and encouraged him to create whatever he could imagine. Zach found that making figurines helped him to cope with an intense shyness he felt when he was young. He loved mimicking characters from television shows and movies, riffing on them to create fantastical new creatures and characters, and experimenting with different fabrics and textures.

Zach's greatest inspiration comes from the work of Tim Burton and the numerous animated films he has produced. He is drawn to the lanky limbs, large eyes, and unrealistic proportions of Burton's work. He was initially very nervous to share his creations with others, keeping them in a shoebox under his bed. Today he accepts commissions to create highly personalized figurines, and his work is for sale in several locations.

"It’s funny how art can evolve, and something you may not consider art can really touch others and make that connection. I’m just a guy who wraps tape around wire, and I never thought that I would be so lucky to have my work seen and appreciated by others, much less on display in a gallery. I’m very thankful for this opportunity and for the support I’ve accumulated along the way."
